Legionella

At the moment, there is only one method approved for the detection of Legionella, according to NEN-EN-ISO 11731. The NEN-EN-ISO 11731 method is based on the cultivation of Legionella bacteria on a semi-selective culture medium.

After 7 days, the culture media are checked for the presence of Legionella-like colonies. These so-called suspicious colonies are being investigated further to see whether they indeed belong to the Legionella species. This is achieved using the MALDI-TOF and takes about half a day (confirmation).

Finally, it is possible to determine the serotype (Legionella pneumophila serotype 1, Legionella pneumophila serotype 2-14 non-pneumophila).

Cooperation agreement

Het Waterlaboratorium has a cooperation agreement with Helder bv. Like us, they are accredited for sampling, but are also BRL6010 certified for carrying out Risk Inventories. Helder bv is our reliable partner in providing honest advice on everything that has to do with Legionella.
