Not only the drinking water companies can benefit from the application of these techniques and the resulting expertise, but also every other link in the water treatment plant. Abovementioned techniques are very suitable for research of environmentally foreign chemicals in various types of waste water (domestic and industrial) and surface water. This enables Het Waterlaboratorium to properly assess treatment yields, for example, for nationally coordinated chemicals, the so-called guide substances.
Het Waterlaboratorium uses its expertise to investigate effective methods for the prevention of microplastics in the environment, including their removal in waste water treatment plants (WWTPs).
Het Waterlaboratorium has extensive knowledge on current toxicological developments, so that we can perform ecotoxicological risk assessments, besides the human toxicological assessments. By using assessment techniques in waste water discharges, it is possible to provide advice to other water managers in complex licensing processes.
In short: Het Waterlaboratorium is capable to assess the water quality in an integrated manner for each partner, and is able to give advice on the optimization of methods and techniques.
